Our Teacher

Mrs. GreenIn the Reggio approach, the teacher is considered a co-learner and collaborator with the child, not just an instructor. Teachers facilitate the child’s learning by planning activities and lessons based on the child’s interests, asking questions to further understanding, and actively engaging in the activities alongside the child.

Meet Mrs. Tanya Green!

  • “One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in or how much money I had in the bank, but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in a child’s life.” -Author unknown
  • My passion is teaching and learning with young children. I especially enjoy facilitating creative play through art and music.
  • My children attended this preschool where we developed lasting friendships and built strong community connections. I feel honoured to continue building new relationships through our Reggio-inspired program as a teacher.

Our Structure

Daily Volunteers

Kingsland Community Preschool is a parent cooperative preschool in which the teachers and parents work as a collaborative team. Parents are a vital component in our students’ preschool education. To keep our fees low, each school day requires a parent volunteer present along with our teacher to meet our required adult-to-child ratios. Our parents sign up to volunteer on a rotating basis throughout the year, and without a parent volunteer present each day, our preschool cannot run. By registering your child for our preschool, you are also registering to volunteer in the classroom on a rotating basis. Siblings cannot be present during these volunteer days, as they also affect the required adult-to-child ratios. Alternate child care must be arranged for siblings on volunteer days.

  • We view parents as partners, collaborators and advocates for their children. Teachers respect parents as each child’s first teacher and involve parents in every aspect of the curriculum. Becoming involved at the preschool is a fantastic way to meet other parents and families and create lifelong friendships.
  • Each day a child’s parent (or other adult) volunteers is that student’s “Luck Duck Day”. This is an exciting day where the Lucky Duck gets to ring the clean-up charm, and bring an item from home for show-and-tell time!
  • Throughout the year Mrs. Green and the children host several themed parties and events which may require parent help and/or attendance.
  • One cleaning bee per student is required per school year. Sign-ups for these monthly evening cleaning bees will be provided, and once the cleaning bee is completed for each child, the Cleaning Bee deposit will be returned. (See Parent Handbook for more)

Our Board

The Preschool Board of Directors is a committee of parents who have volunteered to take on a role on the board. The board of directors is the administrative team that runs the preschool. Our cooperative preschool operates on the principle that policy and administrative matters are voted upon and carried out by a board comprised of parent volunteers.

The Preschool Board typically meets once per month to discuss operational matters.

Many hands make light work! If you are interested in volunteering for our board, email our chair: Kingsland.chair@gmail.com. Experience in accounting, book keeping, marketing, advertising, social media, website design and management is always an asset, but not necessary!
